The virtual HCII 2021 Conference program, including paper and poster presentations is now available. Times indicated are “Eastern Daylight Time - EDT (Washington DC)".
The conference program is adapted to suit the needs of its virtual format. Parallel sessions and tutorials will run concurrently over the six-day period (24-29 July 2021). In this way, the daily load of the conference is four hours (two sessions, two-hours each, with a half-hour break in-between).
Places are still available for the 32 half-day tutorials, which will run from Sunday 25 to Thursday 29 July. The description of each tutorial is available through the Conference website.
Given the continuing difficulties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, HCII 2021 is pleased to offer complimentary attendance to an additional Tutorial for each Tutorial registration. This offer is also extended to existing (already paid) Tutorial registrations.
For the special deals which are available, please have a look at the Registration webpage.
Information for paper presenters and poster presenters is available for their presentations.
The Conference Proceedings are published by Springer in a multi-volume set.
Papers appear in volumes of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) and Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI) series. Poster Extended Abstracts in the form of short research papers are published in the Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS) series.
In addition to the 39 LNCS/LNAI and CCIS Volumes of the conference proceedings, edited by the Thematic Areas / Affiliated Conferences Program Chairs, additional Volumes will be published after the conference:
All volumes together will form the full set of the HCII 2021 Conference Proceedings.
The 39 Volumes that are published before the conference are available to registered conference participants for download, though their account at the Conference Management System (CMS). The Volumes that will be published after the conference will become available to registered conference participants for download though their Conference Management System (CMS) account.
An award will be presented to the Best Paper of each of the HCII 2021 Thematic Areas / Affiliated Conferences and the Best Poster extended abstract.
HCII 2021: Prof. Michitaka Hirose (University of Tokyo, Japan) will give the Keynote Speech during the Opening Plenary Session Saturday, 24 July 2021, 08:00 EDT (Eastern Daylight Time Washington DC, USA).

Detailed information about the registration fees is available through the Conference website.
Artificial Intelligence technologies and applications are becoming ubiquitous and affect many aspects of human life. As the impacts of the AI applications become more prominent, it becomes increasingly important to guide the development of these technologies and ensure that AI is beneficial to humanity.
The Human Centered Artificial Intelligence (HCAI) Working Group holds a 2-day event as part of the HCII 2021 Conference. The event brings together a diverse group of researchers and industry leaders to discuss grand scientific challenges and opportunities in this emerging area, including important topics of trustworthiness, ethics, the impact of algorithms, human-AI collaboration, and emerging applications. The first day, 26th of July, is an open event for all conference participants, with 4 two-hour sessions, each with 4-6 presenters, experts in the field, in which conference participants are cordially invited to attend. The second day, 27th of July, is an invitation only workshop, aiming to outline a research agenda and roadmap for HCAI.
If you are an AIS (Adaptive Instructional Systems) provider, user, researcher, or developer, you may wish to learn about the AIS Consortium. The mission of the AIS Consortium is to support the adoption and advancement of products that use artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to help people learn. A Workshop on “Human-centered design process for AI applications” is organized on Tuesday, 27 July 2021, 08:00 – 12:30 (EDT) in the context of the 2nd AI in HCI Conference, affiliated to HCII2021. The focus of the workshop is the design and development process of applications and systems with AI-based technology, and in particular “human-centered AI”, discussing Human-Centered Design, challenges, benefits and lessons learned.
Workshop Organizers: Brian Stanton (National Institute of Standards and Technology), Giuliana Vitiello (University of Salerno), Helmut Degen (Siemens Technology), Ming Qian (Barnstorm Research).
A Workshop on “Use Cases of Designing AI-enabled Interactive Systems” is organized on Thursday, 29 July 2021, 08:00 – 12:30 (EDT) in the context of the 2nd AI in HCI Conference, affiliated to HCII2021. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together practitioners, researchers and scholars who work on designing AI-enabled interactive systems, in order to elaborate on the issues and challenges faced in designing such systems, including collaborative activities using a common presentation framework. The workshop will be opened by Dr. Nestor Rychtycky (AI Advancement Center and Ford Motor Company).
